MEASUREMENT OF LENGTH
Is the distance between any two points or place. In fact , when you measure width, height , depth, thickness , radius or circumference of any object, you measure the length.
Unit of length
The standard unit of length in metre ( m ).
Metre is a convenient unit to measure the length of cloth and the length of a table, but if you have to measure the distance between two Towns or the distance from your home to school you will be a bigger unit than metre. Such units are called multiples of metre.one the other hand, if you want to measure the length of your pencil or notebook , then you will need a smaller unit than metre. Such units are called submultiples or fraction of metre.
Instruments used to measure length
The most common instrument used to measure length are the metre scale and measuring tape.
A cloth merchant uses the metre scale to measure the length of the cloth. Measuring tapes are used by tailor, carpenters and building constructors. You have a ruler in your geometry box, which is similar to the metre scale but is smaller. It is used to measure smaller length
